Extra-Wide Headboard Beds: Measuring Your Bedroom

An extra-wide headboard extends beyond the bed base to create a hotel-style bedroom feature. To choose one that fits, measure the headboard, bed base and delivery components separately. The mattress size alone does not tell you how much wall space the bed needs.

Headboard width versus bed-base width

Record four measurements: full headboard width, assembled base width, total bed length and headboard height from the floor. Ask whether published measurements refer to the mattress, base or complete upholstered frame.

How much wider is the Raphael headboard?

The Raphael listing describes approximately 19-inch extensions on each side and a 50-inch headboard height. Two extensions add approximately 38 inches, or 96.5cm, to the stated reference width. Confirm the final assembled width for your selected size before ordering, particularly for bespoke specifications.

See the Continental product page for its base measurements. Confirm all dimensions and the selected configuration before purchase.

Will bedside tables fit?

Plan the tables alongside the complete headboard, including sockets, switches and skirting boards. Check whether the headboard will sit behind the tables or whether they will be positioned outside it. Leave enough clearance for drawers and plugs.

What about tall headboards?

Width and height are separate choices. The Caesar has a listed 70-inch headboard and the Felix a listed 75-inch headboard. Check ceiling height, sloping walls and wall fittings, and ask how each headboard is supplied for delivery.

How do you check the access route?

Request the dimensions of the largest component. Measure clear doorway openings and the turning space at stairs and landings. A wide wall in the bedroom does not guarantee that the headboard can reach it.

Can the size be customised?

Bespoke dimensions are available on selected Stratus designs. Send a sketch with wall width, room height, desired mattress size and access measurements. Ask for written confirmation of the agreed measurements, price and lead time before placing a bespoke order.
